Katy Perry Explains Shaved Head, Champions ‘Consensual Interaction’ on ‘Ellen’
If you're making snap judgments about Katy Perry's forthcoming album Witness based on new single "Bon Appetit," Perry's urging you to wait for the complete meal.
In a preview of an interview with The Ellen Degeneres Show, Perry says her new collection of 15 songs has made her very "pleased," and she thinks fans will feel the same way once they experience the LP as a complete work.
"Right now you're just seeing parts of the body of work and ['Bon Appetit'] is sort of the sexually empowered and liberated part," she said. "'Chained to the Rhythm' was kind of the mental, political liberation."
And if the sexual undertones of "Bon Appetit" have left you a little shocked, Perry explains that she's simply trying to sincerely capture this decade of her life.
"Now, embracing my 30s, which i think is so bomb dot com, I love it so much, I love being a woman and I love a consensual interaction," she said. "There's nothing wrong with that, we're all animals!"
"Most of the time I just like to lift people's spirits," she ultimately adds.
Perry also explaines her shocking new hairdo — a blond buzzcut that she first unveiled in April. She said she hadn't necessarily intended to shock and surprise, but that at some point, she had no choice but to do something drastic.
“I did it about a month and some change ago," she said. "I don’t know if you’ve ever dyed your hair blond, and too blond, sometimes your hair falls out when you go too blond. So, this is the way I handled it.”
And Perry seems to be a pro at "handling it" — she told Degeneres that using the restroom in her intricate Met Gala gown was a definite challenge. Still, she managed.
“There was a lot of self-control, practice, and GoGirls. You know those little contraptions where you then get to urinate standing up?” she said.
