Tropical storm Lee brought torrential rainfall to Louisiana and Mississippi over Labor Day weekend. It also fanned numerous wildfires here in Texas. The winds produced by the storm caused major problems, especially in Bastrop county east of Austin, where over 500 homes were lost. Firefighters continue to battle fires here in our state as of earlier today, September 6th.

Since the first of September, Texas has reported at least 63 wildfires, with the Bastrop county fire being the worst. The persistent dry conditions, coupled with winds lingering from tropical storm Lee are hindering firefighter efforts to get blazes under control. Governor Rick Perry was interviewed on the Today Show this morning and said the fires were a 'long way' from being under control, despite calmer winds helping firefighters.
