Tropical storm Lee brought torrential rainfall to Louisiana and Mississippi over Labor Day weekend. It also fanned numerous wildfires here in Texas. The winds produced by the storm caused major problems, especially in Bastrop county east of Austin, where over 500 homes were lost. This year has been one for the books. Last night (6/20), thunderstorms rumbled through the Abilene area with a LOT of lightning and some much needed rain. But high winds accompanying the storms caused damage to trees and structures in the region.
The wildfires continue to burn across the Abilene area and the state of Texas.
The current situation is making history, and not in a good way.
It has now been 19 consecutive days of dry weather. That dry weather coupled with unseasonably warm temperatures and relentless high winds, has been responsible for over 700,000 acres in fire damage.
