One of the true legends in rock and roll songwriting has died. Jerry Lieber's writing can literally be deemed the rock and roll songbook. Along with his partner Mike Stoller, Lieber wrote 'Jailhouse Rock', 'Stand By Me', 'Yakety Yak', 'Stuck In The Middle With You', 'Spanish Harlem', 'Love Potion No. 9', 'Leader Of The Pack', 'Charlie Brown', 'On Broadway', 'Chapel Of Love', and 'Hound Dog'. The list goes on from there. Those are just a few of the big ones.

Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller tunes were recorded by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Barbara Streisand, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, and Aretha Franklin among others. Their songs were featured on an entire episode of 'American Idol' this past season.

Jerry Lieber was a member of the 'Songwriter's Hall Of Fame' and 'The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame'. He died yesterday (August 22nd) of cardiopulmonary failure at the age of 78. Check out a video of the Searchers' big Lieber-Stoller penned hit 'Love Potion No. 9':  (via USAToday.com)
