The 50 Coolest Easter Eggs From the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Maybe it’s all the hype around Avengers: Age of Ultron, opening on May 1, or maybe it’s the holiday we just celebrated last weekend, but we’ve had Easter eggs on the brain at ScreenCrush lately. And of all the Easter eggs in all forms of media, our favorites are the ones in Marvel movies; the callbacks to earlier films, brief teases of future adventures, and references to as-yet unseen characters or concepts from the original Marvel comic books.
Every movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe contains at least a couple Easter eggs (along with a cameo from famous Marvel writer Stan Lee). They’re there — if you know where to look and what to look for (it helps to have spent a lifetime reading comic books and books about comic books and watching television shows based on comic books and you get the idea). For those of you still acclimating yourself to the magical world of Marvel — and for those Marvel zombies who just want to make sure they caught everything — we’ve compiled this extensive gallery of the best and geekiest Marvel Easter eggs so far.
Note that this list only contains Easter eggs from the official Marvel Cinematic Universe; you won’t find Electro’s birthday cake from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (its green and yellow lightning frosting is a reference to his comic-book costume) or the callbacks to X-Men: First Class in X-Men: Days of Future Past. (Poor, poor Angel.) There’s no DC Easter eggs here either, so if you’re looking for pictures of the Wayne Enterprises satellite from Man of Steel, you’ll have to go elsewhere. Inside the strict confines of the MCU, these are the coolest Easter eggs so far, at least until Age of Ultron comes out in a couple weeks.
