Listen to Kirk Hammett Play on Michael Schenker’s ‘Heart and Soul’
Former UFO and Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker is set to unveil a new effort by his latest project, Michael Schenker Fest, when Resurrection arrives on March 2.
He's just released an official lyric video for the single "Heart and Soul," which features him trading guitar solos with Kirk Hammett of Metallica.
Hammett has often credited Schenker with being a major influence, singling out "Mother Mary" from UFO's Force It in particular. "When it got to the guitar solo, I was just blown away by Michael Schenker's tone, phrasing and technique," he said. "By the time the second solo came on with the fastest descending lick I'd ever heard, I was totally hooked."
Even though they had met each other a few times socially, they had never played together until a 2015 episode of That Metal Show.
In addition to Hammett, Resurrection features lead vocal contributions from Robin McAuley, Graham Bonnet and Gary Barden -- all of whom have played with the Michael Schenker Group in the past -- as well as Doogie White, the former Rainbow singer who has also sung with Schenker's Temple of Rock.
Schenker will embark on a North American tour that begins March 6 at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, Md., and concludes on April 3 at the Ritz in Tampa. You can see all the dates below and get full details at his website.
