We're coming up on the middle of July as I put these words on the page, and we still don't know if there's going to be a 2011 NFL season. All in all I think it's pretty pathetic.

With over $1 billion on the line, the players are owners are STILL talking, and according to reports, making very little progress. At this point in time, we should be looking forward to preseason games in just over three weeks. Seems a sure bet that's not going to happen.

My reaction is still utter disbelief when there's a labor dispute in professional sports, especially football or baseball where a good portion of the salaries are astronomical. I mean, how much difference does it really make whether your paycheck this season is $6 million or $8million. Does it really change your lifestyle that much?

The advertisers pony up big sums to get the eyes of guess who? You and me, the fans. Justice would be turning off the sport for good, but all parties involved know THAT's not going to happen. So the bickering and stalemates continue.

The latest on the talks as of today, Friday, July 8th is that members of the NFL Players Association executive board and owners are meeting as you read this to try and resolve issues once again.

The clock is ticking way past deadline. Training camps should be open in three weeks and the first preseason contest, The Hall Of Fame Game, is set for August 7th. Don't bet on it. (via MSN.FoxSports.com)
