Remembering 9/11 – Songs That Helped The Healing Process
It's been a long time since the tragic events of 9/11, but the memories of that day will always be fresh in my mind. One thing that helped the healing process begin, was music.
Whether they were tribute songs played on the radio, or songs that I threw in my CD player that day, these are the songs I remember from that time that helped the healing process.
Enya 'Only Time'
At the time, I worked for a radio station called KISS FM, and we used to play this song all the time. I hated the song. But, after 9/11 I connected to this song and will forever associate it with September 11th, 2001.
Styx 'Show Me The Way'
Once again, this was a song I never really liked - until after 9/11. Don't get me wrong, I like Styx, just didn't really care for this song. But, it was definitely one that impacted several people.
Megadeth 'Angry Again'
Although I don't agree with some of Dave Mustaine's antics, when you pop a Megadeth song in, you can't help but get a little angry - and that's one of many emotions that ran through me after the initial shock had worn off a bit.
Lee Greenwood 'God Bless the USA'
In my opinion, this song, more than any other song, connected with everybody. Regardless of anyone's religious belief, this song warmed the hearts of Americans everywhere.
Metallica 'Seek and Destroy'
I remember popping playing this song in my CD player and thinking of the many ways we should bomb those responsible for that tragedy. Yeah, I was very angry as every American was. This video has war footage, as well as footage from 9/11.
These were just the tip of the iceberg of songs that I remember the most on September 11th, 2001.
What songs do you remember hearing that may have helped the healing process or had an impact on you?
