Abilene is a city of hustle and bustle. One thing I think that everybody can agree on is that there are plenty of vehicles on the streets. As with most cities, Abilene also has its share of car accidents. Too many in my opinion. I witnessed one happen right in front of our radio station studios just this week.

According to the legal resource website HG.org, speeding is the number one cause of traffic accidents in Texas. Much of the time speeding is done through intersections right here in Abilene. I've seen it with my own eyes. The traffic light turns red and there's always one person that barrels right through it. It's dangerous and it gets people killed.

This prompted me to cast a net out in an Abilene Facebook group asking the question, "what's the most dangerous intersection in Abilene?" The comments I received back were all legitimate. I've seen and heard of traffic accidents in these areas more than once. The big question then becomes, should the city consider photo-enforced red light cameras to help stop these red light runners? I realize there are many opinions on this topic. Before you form yours, see if you agree with the dangerous intersections below.

 Southwest Drive and Clack Street

Chick-fil-a is a hotspot at the intersection of Southwest Drive and Clack Street but it sure can cause some traffic issues. I've seen cars block an entire lane waiting in line for that tasty chicken.

The bottom line is this. Speeding through red lights is just plain dangerous. Just ask anyone who's ever been involved in a traffic light accident. No matter what opinion you have on red light cameras, I think we all can agree we want a safe community.

Traffic laws exist to maintain order and keep us safe. However, sometimes we can be breaking the law and not even know it. There are lesser-known traffic laws out there that you may have forgotten. Look below for a quick refresher.
