DANGER: Should These 5 Intersections In Abilene Have Red Light Cameras?
There's plenty of hustle and bustle going on in Abilene. One thing I think everybody can agree on is that there are plenty of cars and trucks on the streets. As with most cities, Abilene also has its share of car accidents. Too many in my opinion.
According to the legal resource website HG.org, speeding is the number one cause of traffic accidents in Texas. With my own two eyes I've seen many folks speed through intersections right here in Abilene. The traffic light turns red and there's always one person who barrels right through it. It's dangerous and it gets people killed.

So I cast a net out in an Abilene Facebook group asking the question, "What's the most dangerous intersection in Abilene?" The comments I received back were all legitimate, I must admit. I've seen and heard of traffic accidents in these areas more than once. The big question then becomes, should the city consider bringing back photo-enforced red light cameras to help stop these red light runners? There are many opinions on this topic. Before you form yours, see if you agree on the danger of the noted intersections below.
DANGER: SHOULD THESE 5 INTERSECTIONS IN ABILENE HAVE RED LIGHT CAMERAS?
Pine Street and Ambler Avenue
Southwest Drive and Catclaw Drive
Buffalo Gap Road and Clack Street
S. 27th Street and Treadaway Boulevard
Southwest Drive and Clack Street
The Chick-fil-A at the intersection of Southwest Drive and Clack Street sure can cause some traffic issues. I've seen cars block an entire street lane waiting in line for that tasty chicken.
The bottom line is this: speeding through red lights is just plain dangerous. Ask anyone who's ever been involved in a traffic accident. No matter what opinion you have on red light cameras, I think we all can agree we want a safe Abilene.
