The annual Tour De Gap Bike Ride and Race is scheduled for this Saturday, July 23rd. Registration begins at 6:30 at Old Settlers Reunion Grounds in beautiful Buffalo Gap, Texas. The ride gets underway just after 8am.

Whether you're an experienced cyclist or a newbie like me, the Tour De Gap is for you. It's actually four rides. You can choose from 11, 27, 52, or 77-mile routes. It's $30 to enter and all proceeds benefit the Food Bank Of West Central Texas. The ride is aptly subtitled 'A Great Ride For A Great Cause'.

My wife and I will be riding the 27-mile route, which heads out of Buffalo Gap on FM 613 and goes right through downtown Tuscola, onward another 10 miles or so to a turnaround on Lemon's Gap Road that takes you back to the Gap. We've ridden the route twice over recent weekends, and it's a scenic trip. Even at a leisurely pace, you can finish this route in a little over two hours and be back in the shade before it gets too hot.

Many families ride the 11-mile route with kids. And if you're a more seasoned rider, you might opt for the 52 or 77-mile trek. All riders get a Tour De Gap t-shirt and are entered for prizes too. I invite you to join us this Saturday for a lot of fun to benefit the Food Bank! If you need more info, you can find it at TourDeGap.Wordpress.com. You can also call Bike Town, the event sponsor at 677-BIKE. Jim McDonald and his friendly staff are glad to help.
