It's pretty much official.  Al Jardine said yesterday (December 13th) that the Beach Boys will play at the Grammy Awards show in February of 2012.  The appearance had been rumored to be happening, and the surviving members were expected to appear at the Grammy nominations show last month, but couldn't work out the details.

The Beach Boys will celebrate their 50th anniversary next year, so this appearance lends credence to a big tour announcement that might be part of the festivities too.  Fans have been thrilled with the release of the 'Smile Sessions' album, which was just named Rolling Stone magazine's reissue of the year for 2011.  Now with a possible extensive world tour in the works, the Beach Boys just might be one of the big stories in 2012.  Check out a video of the band performing 'Help Me Rhonda' from February of this year at the Concert For America.  Brian Wilson is not in the lineup here, but is on board for the future:  (via contactmusic.com)
