The 'Bent Wheel Bash' bike event is this weekend (October 22nd and 23rd) at Buck Creek Trails and the Warren Dodson Police Training Center, at 4557 East Lake Road. The annual race is expected to host around 300 riders to take on the 8.5 mile course this Sunday, and riders can register any time this weekend before the race itself or sign up online at bikereg.com..

There's plenty to see and do both Saturday and Sunday. If you're planning to ride or watch, use the police training center entrance on East Lake Road.   Hit the link at the bottom of the story for directions.

The ride/race is a sanctioned event in the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association Fall series.  Riders are divided by sill level and age for men and women.  Admission to the grounds for spectators is just $5 per vehicle, good for both Saturday and Sunday.  Proceeds from this weekend go to the Abilene Police Department bike unit.

One of the weekend highlights will be the annual 'Guns 'n Hoses' competition between the Abilene Police and Abilene Fire Department.  It begins at 2 pm Saturday afternoon and is always fun to watch.  The APD will try to defend their title from last year.

Also on hand will be a selection of brand new Specialized bikes available for demo rides.  Bike Town, the sponsor of this weekend's activities, can give you complete info on the new lines from Specialized.  They're great bikes.  If you've been thinking about getting into cycling, there's no better time to see what's available than this weekend.  It's a lot of fun and I guarantee you can get in shape in a hurry on a bike!

You can even purchase 'Bent Wheel Bash' t-shirts - that look just like the logo you see here - on site for just $10 to help out the APD.  For more information on the Bent Wheel Bash including maps and directions you can go to bentwheelbash.wordpress.com or call the friendly staff at Biketown, 677-BIKE (2453).

It's not an easy course by the way.  Check out a 'helmet cam' video of Buck Creek Trails!  Some rugged terrain:
