A near mint copy of the first comic book to feature Spider Man sold for just over $1 million. The sale was from one private individual to another.

While it's not the highest price ever paid for a comic book, it is the highest for a Spider Man comic; and also the highest for any comic from the 'silver age'. That describes comics produced from the mid-50's up to around 1970.

The 'golden age' is where the record resides (those comics produced from the 30's to the early 50's). The record holder is still the Action Comics #1, featuring the debut of Superman. A copy of that rare adventure went for $1.5 million.

I knew I should have saved my comic books from back in my childhood. I bought a lot of them in that 'silver age', and it looks like some may now be commanding very high prices. More on the story here at movies.msn.com .
