I've marveled at the lunacy of going over Niagara Falls in a barrel. It's been tried a handful of times in the last hundred years, and a couple of people have actually survived. They went over the falls on purpose.

But driving your car over the edge of the Grand Canyon and surviving is pretty much unthinkable, by accident or deliberately.

A 21 year old man accidentally drove his car over the edge of the Grand Canyon at a spot where it is over one mile deep. Amazingly, he survived by just pure luck. His car caught on a pine tree about 200 feet down the canyon wall. He managed to climb out of the car...and out of the canyon on his own.

A motorist in the area spotted the guy, with injuries (of course), staggering around and waving for help near where his car plummeted over the edge. He rendered aid and called authorities.

Not only are they investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, they're trying to figure out how to get the car out of the tree (and the canyon)!

By the way, vehicles driving into the Grand Canyon is a very rare occurrence. See the full story here at Reuters.com.
