We Texas dads are pretty much like most other dads from other states and countries. However, there are a few things we do a bit differently, which come naturally because of our Southern upbringing and hospitality.

First, I will admit that as a father of five daughters and three sons, all my children are my children, always have been, and always will be. I don’t know if that last statement is Southern Texas pride or that I love my children with all my heart and soul.

Note: The video below is quite emotional. You might want to have a tissue handy.

As a proud Texas father, I have a very strong sense of identity. We Texas dads have a deep sense of pride in our state’s history and culture. We tend to pass on traditions such as celebrating both U.S. and Texas Independence Day, enjoying all kinds of music, scooting a boot, and participating in rodeos and state fairs.

In Texas, we have a very diverse population, including influences from Mexican, German, and various other cultures. Texas dads often embrace this diversity, teaching their children to respect and celebrate different cultural backgrounds.

We Texas dads are friendly and hospitable, a trait associated with our Southern culture. We WILL greet you with a big ole smile and a “Howdy!” Here are a few more things Texas dads are known for:

Love for BBQ: We take pride in our barbecue skills. Whether it’s brisket, ribs, steaks, chicken, turkeys, or sausage, it’s all smoked or grilled the RIGHT WAY!

Sports Enthusiasts: Football IS a religion in Texas, and we Texas dads are passionate fans. "Go Cowboys!" "Go Rangers!" You’ll find us cheering for our favorite high school, college, or professional teams.

Cowboy Spirit: We may not all be rodeo champs, but all Texas dads have a touch of cowboy flair. We wear boots, cowboy hats, blue jeans, and some of us even own a pair of spurs (Lord knows I do).

Outdoor Adventurers: In Texas, dads love the great outdoors and the vast Lone Star landscapes. Real Texas dads are known for enjoying outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and camping. Just being outside.

This Father’s Day, remember your dad. Give him a call or let him cook for you on that mesquite smoker-cooker (good Lord knows he loves doing that). Most importantly, he is the way he is because of his culture and heritage. Happy Father’s Day, y’all!

Disclaimer: Keep in mind that these are my generalizations, and every dad is unique.
