The Scariest Things That Have Happened At Nightmare On 19th Street

How about some real creepiness to hold you over until Halloween.

We’re going to talk about phantom object manipulation, thunderstorms, and animal mutilation…just wait before you freak out.

It’s hard to put an exact finger on how creepy things get at Nightmare on 19th Street in Lubbock, especially during the warmer months. It tends to be creepier then because we either work very late at night or very early in the morning. Those hours just seem to be “the hours between worlds,” and we usually work using only small headlamps.

We’ve hosted the gang from Texas Tech Paranormal, and they agree with us on the creepiest spot at Nightmare. It’s a hidden workshop area we call “Vanderland.” I cannot walk through that place day or night without the hairs raising on the back of my neck.

The Animal Thing

First off, let’s get the animal thing out of the way.

We’re not sure if we have foxes, coyotes, chupacabras, or demons roaming around the property, but we’ve found several disemboweled animals inside our main attraction over the years. We recognize that it’s most likely just nature doing nature things involving predators and prey, but when you find a dead skunk near an open coffin, it gets a little creepy.

Things Out Of Place

You know what else is scary? Something being somewhere it absolutely shouldn’t be.

One time we kept hearing noises around the back of the attraction, but we couldn’t figure out what was causing it. As we approached the area, we suddenly found ourselves face to face with three deer, including one with some impressive antlers. Of course, in our minds, we had just spotted a wendigo.

Storms, Graveyards, And Fake Bodies

In a slightly lighter moment, something that might have looked terrifying to somebody else was actually just maintenance work by me.

It was thundering and lightning like crazy, but we still had a few tasks left to finish. That meant I had to carry a fake dead body across an outdoor graveyard set in the middle of a storm like some kind of madman straight out of a horror movie.

The Hanging Bodies

The last one is genuinely freaky.

I had a crew of workers putting the final touches on one of the haunts, and they kept feeling like someone was watching or following them. Eventually they decided to set up a phone camera in the area.

What they later caught on video was extremely creepy.

Five hanging “dead bodies” suddenly started swinging on their own, all moving in different directions, with nobody there to push them. No one could explain it then, and honestly, we still can’t explain it now.

Of course, these stories are just the beginning, but if you ask me — or the people who have investigated the property — Nightmare on 19th Street is haunted for real.
