The First Teaser Trailer for Taika Waititi’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Is Pure Wild Fun
If you thought the first official photos of Thor: Ragnarok were wild, just wait till you get a taste of the new teaser trailer. The third solo outing for the God of Thunder isn’t just any new Marvel movie, but a distinctly Taika Waititi one. That means it’s going to be a heck of a lot more fun than you’d imagine.
When I say ‘fun’ I mean Jeff Goldblum donning shiny blue face makeup and golden robes, villainous Cate Blanchett destroying Thor’s hammer with one menacing smile, and a gladiator match between buds when Thor faces off with The Hulk. We also get a better look at Chris Hemsworth’s new short ‘do, Tessa Thompson’s warrior Valkyrie, the return of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, and some fantastic slow-mo action sequences. Oh, and did I mention that Blanchett’s Hela, the goddess of death, also dons a black latex suit with spiky deer horns? This is Taika Waititi’s world; we’re just living in it.
You can see the Kiwi filmmaker’s touch all over this trailer, from the vibrant colors and psychedelic typography to an added dose of humor reminiscent of those fantastic Team Thor shorts. It also doesn’t hurt that the teaser’s injected with a manic energy courtesy of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” The director has talked about his Thor movie will feel a lot different from Hemsworth’s previous solo outings. Last month he detailed how his take on the Marvel Universe dismantles and reimagines the world to create something totally new. Here’s the full synopsis:
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!
Marvel also dropped a brand new poster with the teaser. Check out the colorful one sheet below. Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3.
