Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber wants to return to the NFL. He's 35 years old and hasn't played in four years. Barber is definitely facing an uphill battle to get back in the game at a competitive level at this point in time.

As a running back, he comes in at one of the most punished positions in the game. Coupled with his age and four years of retirement, it will be a rough road to say the least.

Barber had two years left on his contract with New York when he retired in 2006, so they hold his rights. The Giants have indicated that they will release him from the retirement/reserve status as soon as they are allowed to do so.

Tiki Barber left the game as the Giants' all time career rushing leader, and 22nd best of all time. Some of these guys literally can't get it out of their system. It's an honest love of the game, even when the physical demands cannot be met. I worked for a former NFL player who told me when he was 48 that there's nothing he would like better than to suit up and get on the field. We'll see how Tiki fares if and when he gets an offer to play in the league again.
