If you've ever found yourself aimlessly wandering the supermarket aisles in December, you may subconsciously know the lyrics to the traditional English Christmas carol 'The Twelve Days of Christmas'. With each successive verse, the gifts become more impractical and outlandish, from birds to jewelry to milkmaids.

In the spirit of the holiday season, I challenged our Facebook followers to rewrite the iconic lyrics of the carol to fit Abilene itself, and the results did not disappoint:

Here's what made the final list in The Twelve Days of Christmas, Abilene-Style. Curl up with some eggnog, and try not to get the tune stuck in your head.

The Twelve Days of Christmas in Abilene

Everyone knows the tune to the holiday standard "The Twelve Days of Christmas." We took to Facebook and asked our listeners to change the lyrics to fit Abilene.

Up first is the KEAN 105 legend himself, Rudy Fernandez, whose catchphrase is, "I love to live in Abilene and I live to love Abilene." Rudy should be considered a national treasure, but we're still happy he's Abilene radio's best-kept secret.

The Crosstown Showdown between Abilene High and Abilene Cooper makes West Texas football the perfect pair-up. Now, if we could only end the feud and makeup like two turtle doves.

Abilene has been welcoming students and faculty from around the world to its three private Christian universities since its inception, which has earned it the nickname of the Buckle of the Bible Belt. Both Abilene Christian University and Hardin-Simmons University have some notable alumni, from TV stars to country music legends.

Downtown Abilene is also the Storybook Capital of America, which means you can roam around and easily find iconic children's literature characters, like Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears A Who and The Lorax.

And a late night on the town or a quick trip through Abilene isn't complete without Allsup's burritos or homemade tamales at Christmas. It's just the right thing to do in Abilene.
