I guess it was bound to happen. Paul McCartney recently told Rolling Stone Magazine that he is working on a 'standards' album to be released some time next year.

Rod Stewart has banked millions doing those pre-rock classic tunes, and McCartney said he has been wanting to do this for years, but didn't want it to seem like he was following in Rod's steps. Paul says none of his choices will be 'obvious' ones.

Paul is also currently working on a rock-based album that might see the light of day before the end of this year, but more likely will be out there in 2012 as well.

McCartney has always put touches of that 'standards' melodic style into his releases. His father was a musician too, and played a lot of big band style material. If you're wondering what Paul's new efforts could sound like, listen to this video. The video portion is actually just a slide show, but the song itself is a Noel Coward composition, 'Room With A View': (via PerezHilton.com)
