Southern Living claims Texas is home to some of the most haunted roads in America. That's right, roads. Sightings of apparitions and strange phenomena reportedly happen along their winding pathways. With Halloween on the way, now is the perfect time to shed some light on three of the most notorious haunted roads in Texas, each with a chilling story to tell.
BEWARE, TEXAS IS HOME TO THESE 3 VERY HAUNTED ROADS
Perhaps the most well-known haunted road in Texas is Bragg Road, also known as Ghost Road, in Saratoga. It's known for mysterious ghost lights, which appear as floating orbs that move along the roadway. Many think that these lights are the spirits of lost travelers or settlers from the area. Others take a more scientific approach and think they could be the result of swamp gas or other natural occurrence.
Another haunted road in Texas is El Camino Real, also known as the Old San Antonio Road. This trail is said to be haunted by the spirit of a headless horseman, who is believed to be a Spanish soldier decapitated by Native Americans. If you travel this road you may encounter a headless figure riding along the trail. Listen carefully and you might even hear the sounds of galloping hooves.
Another spine-chilling street is Patterson Road in Houston, known for its eerie tales of ghost soldiers from the Civil War, who are said to haunt the area. Witnesses report hearing the sounds of gunshots, marching footsteps, and even seeing apparitions of soldiers in uniform.
Texas is a state filled with stories of the paranormal that are sure to pique the interest of any enthusiast. I love traveling the state of Texas, so these roads are definitely on my hit list. Who's up for a road trip?
